In older children, a fever of 103°F or higher is cause for concern and should be checked. For adults, call your healthcare provider if your fever reaches 104°F or if the fever is accompanied by symptoms like stiff neck, severe pain, or trouble breathing.

Regardless of age, a fever that doesn’t improve with medication or is paired with breathing problems, seizures, or other severe symptoms needs urgent care.
